Singing Bowl Therapy

“THERE IS NO ORGAN SYSTEM IN THE BODY THAT IS NOT AFFECTED BY SOUND, MUSIC AND VIBRATION. YOU CAN LOOK AT DISEASE AS A FORM OF DISHARMONY’ – Mitchell Gaynor

For most of my life I had battled with an auto-immune disease, adrenal fatigue, insomnia, anxiety and an inability to relax or switch off – I was out of control! I reached the point where I had to make some big changes in order to improve my life and move forward or spend the rest of my life on medication or burning out. Spending more time learning about and practicing different styles of yoga, deeply immersing myself in a number of trainings and retreats around the world became the first stepping stone to creating a new life. James and I then booked on to our first gong bath with the fabulous Craig from www.soulshine.life who took us through the most wonderful journey with a combination of singing bowls, crystal bowls, gongs and other sound instruments – something screamed out to us in that session that we needed to learn more about this subject and this is when our journey with yoga, sound and reiki truly began….

WHAT ARE SINGING BOWLS?

Singing bowls have travelled across the Himalayas, through the mountains, valleys, along ancient trade routes and have been used for sacred sound making, serving food, healing and purification for thousands of years.

They are made up of 8 metals (Copper, Tin, Zinc, Iron, Lead, Gold, Silver and Mercury) consisting of many beneficial minerals and these days predominantly work through sound vibrations and frequency that is transported to the cellular level of the human body for healing.

We brought our full himalayan singing bowl set back from Nepal following our Singing Bowl Therapy course with Grand Master Shree Krishna Shahi in the Kathmandu Healing Centre. Grand Master Shree has been getting his singing bowls from a local family for over 40 years – they are all handmade and we were drawn to our unpolished set immediately with very earthy and deep tones. Each bowl is linked to a chakra tone and when played together are harmonised and the sound is incredible.

WHAT ARE THE BENEFITS OF USING SINGING BOWLS?

  • Promotes deep relaxation

  • Reduces stress and anxiety, depression, insomnia, menstrual pain, ear problems etc

  • Relaxes the body, opens up blockages, loosens tension and releases pain

  • Helps the body generate a positive flow of energy

  • Aids the immune system

  • Improves circulation and blood flow

  • Can also be used for chakra balancing and body massage

WHAT TREATMENTS DO YOU OFFER?

We offer 3 main treatments with the Singing Bowls or a combination of all 3. We also offer to combine with Reiki or Reiki Drumming (offered by James) which is a very popular option.

1. Chakra Balancing

Chakras are energy vortices within the body originating in the ancient Indian system of healing and when a physical dysfunction is in place, one or more chakras are considered to be blocked, dysfunctional or unbalanced. Unbalanced chakras are reflected in a whole range of mental, emotional and physiological dysfunctions. Chakra balancing is used to correct the chakra so that the endocrine gland and all the associated structures and organs effected by that gland balance and begin to function correctly.

The bowls are placed around the body and played in a particular sequence to naturally cause chakras to self-correct. The sound waves, run through the body correcting frequencies to the unbalanced chakras, bringing them back to normal functioning. Chakra balancing can be deeply relaxing and helps with many modern-day issues like stress, insomnia and offering the opportunity to take some much-needed time out for yourself.

2. Sound Bath

We perform a singing bowl concert bathing you in the beautiful sounds and vibrations from the singing bowls which has a profound effect on mental peace, relaxation and healing.

3. Singing Bowl Massage

The singing bowls are placed directly on to the body (through your clothes) and the singing bowls are played sending the healing vibrations through the body to relax, heal and rejuvenate any areas that are blocked or in pain.

4. Reiki and Reiki Drumming

Reiki re-activates the body’s natural energy system, bringing you back into balance on every level, physically, emotionally, mentally and spiritually. Reiki Drumming can be a deep relaxation technique that reduces stress and promotes healing. Drumming for healing and meditation is an ancient practice and goes back thousands of years, the power of sound over the body and spirit is well known in tribal cultures. Scientific research confirms that drumming (even for short periods) can influence brain activity, bringing you into the meditative alpha state and can reduce stress. Study also shows that drumming can increase the production of the body’s natural painkillers and can therefore help control pain and enhance healing.

WHY DO WE INCORPORATE SOUND HEALING INTO OUR YOGA SESSIONS?

Training in Singing Bowl Therapy with Grand Master Shree in Nepal has allowed us to bring sound healing into our yin yoga classes, workshops and retreats to enhance the experience and offer deeper healing and relaxation for attendees. The sounds, vibrations and frequencies which we play using the singing bowls are transported to the cellular level of our body and has a profound effect on mental peace, relaxation and healing. We also put the bowls on the body so the vibrations can go directly into the body. The singing bowls are great for stimulating the blood vessels, lymph’s, nerves, veins and muscles to open up blockages and loosening tension in the body which works perfectly with Yin Yoga. We finish the sessions with a Reiki Drumming Shower by James which can be quite ransformational and offers a very unique experience which is can be very powerful, cleansing and healing.

Yin yoga and Sound with Natalie and James is such an incredible experience. You leave feeling blissfully chilled out but also reenergised! The combination of yin yoga with sound bath is so relaxing, yet powerful. A unique experience! – Julia Mercer
